Dobos Torte, referred to as drum torte, is a lavish Hungarian sponge cake containing 7 layers packed with delicious chocolate buttercream and topped with caramel. This includes either 5 or 7 separately baked layers (there is some debate about this, yet tortes offered in Budapest today normally apply 5; and these need to never be cut from a solitary cake). The parts of the cake are typically sprinkle with buttercream and occasionally covered with ground hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts or chestnuts, and prepared in a circle or pastry pan.
